A stone’s throw down the Cornish coast from Port Isaac, The Mariners pub nestles in the heart of the fishing village of Rock.
Described as being an inn where ‘food, drinks, service and atmosphere are all second to none’, the pub has now been named the best in Britain according to the Cornish Guardian.
GQ Magazine’s annual Food and Drink Awards were announced last month and the popular pub beat off its competitors to take the top spot.
The pub was taken over in May of last year by the chef Paul Ainsworth and his wife, Emma . The former owner was another of the great names in the Cornish culinary scene, Nathan Outlaw, who has recently re-opened his award-winning Port Isaac restaurant in a new guise as ‘Outlaw’s, New Road’.
