Funds Awarded to Create Spaceport Cornwall

Thursday, Jul 4, 2019

Plans to create a spaceport in Cornwall, capable of launching satellites into orbit from the early 2020s, have been boosted by funds of approximately £20 million.

As reported in the Cornish Guardian, The UK Space Agency, Cornwall Council and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership are together proposing to fund the plans. Final approval of funding will be confirmed later this year.

The spaceport will be Europe’s first horizontal-launch spaceport with Virgin Orbit proposing to launch small satellites from the facility.

It may also be able to offer passenger flights.
