Cornwall could become the first location in the UK to offer commercial space flights as soon as 2020 according to a report in the Cornish Guardian.
A Space Industry Bill is currently going through parliament and Cornish MPs are calling for the UK’s first spaceport to be located at Newquay airport, arguing that its geographical location, available development land and links to Goonhilly satellite station make it the perfect site for the planned project.
If Cornwall is awarded the privilege of creating the UK’s first spaceport, it may soon be offering satellite launches and sub-orbital flights from the shores of the spectacular Cornish coast.
A decision may be made as soon as March of this year.
