The South West Coast Path Association will celebrate its 40th anniversary in spring with the launch of the Great South West Walk – and you’re invited to attend.
The birthday event, to be held from 3 April to 7 May, aims to raise some much needed funds. While the coastal path is thought to generate some £300 million for the regional economy every year, funding for maintenance has shrunk considerably in recent years. This has caused concern that there will not be enough money for on-going improvements and upgrades.
To raise awareness of the shortage, the Association would like at least 30 walkers each day to complete a series of sponsored walks covering the entire 630 mile path, which stretches from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset. Every walker is asked to raise a minimum of £50.
