Rick and Jill Stein marked the beginning of spring with their first ever beer and mussel festival. And quite a success it was too!
The Cornish Arms at St Merryn, which is owned by the Steins, teamed up with St Austell Brewery to put on a great weekend full of food, booze and top class entertainment. The event kicked off with a book signing by Rick Stein himself, who also devised the ‘mussel on tap’ menu, designed to show off the very best of Cornish produce.
St Austell Brewery’s head brewer Roger Ryman was on hand to provide some of the county and country’s finest beers, all of which perfectly complemented the variety of fresh mussels on offer. Live music also featured throughout the weekend, with highlights coming from Vince Lee and the Big Combo, Kath and the Blue Grass Boys and 2 Tonic.
Speaking about the festival, Rick Stein said: “March is the best time of year for mussels, any time is good for proper beer brewed by people who love what they do. A big marquee next to our lovely pub with some great bands, a selection of 30 beers and some of my favourite mussel dishes; what could be a better combination on a weekend by the coast in Cornwall.”
